Lookit, I’m a Capricorn. A December-born Capricorn to be clear. Caps are known as the practical, disciplined ones. A bit serious. Well, we’ve also got tons of wonderful, positive traits too, such as ambition, patience, humour, to name a few. But back to the practical, serious bit. You’d think with personality traits such as these, that the world of spiritual mindfulness and wellness to me would be…oh, woo woo, hokey pokey nonsense. Erm, yeah, that was my first impression once upon a time.
But now, thankfully, I’ve learned (admittedly with initial trepidation) to embrace the wonder of what cannot be seen with the naked eye nor explained with any immediate tangible evidence. The first step began with a purchase of my first set of Angel Cards (Oracle Cards).
I first learned about Oracle Cards at a girls-night get-together–where us gals would be imbued with good wine, great conversation, and lots of girly bonding. Looking back, it’s no surprise that it was at the house of one of my most spirited, happiest, joyful friends that I would be introduced to the angels. I was listening to another friend explain how at her deepest depths of loneliness and depression, she got through it with the aid of her Oracle Cards. Well, she had Fairy Cards. My interest was peaked, and I asked how they worked, what they were, where I could find some of my own. She directed me to a hidden gem of a bookshop in the city called Banyen Books – described as “a watering hole for the spirit”. Hot damn, I branded the bookshop’s name onto my brain!
THE QUEST FOR FINDING MY ORACLE CARDS
A couple days later I made a trip to the bookstore to find my own set of Oracle Cards. I was surprised and, quite frankly, overwhelmed by the selection. There were Angel Cards, Fairy Cards, Guardian Angel Cards, Osho Zen Animal Cards, Animal Spirits Cards, Goddesses Cards, Druid Animal Cards, Unicorn Cards, Flower Spirit Cards, Celtic Totem Animal Cards, Archangel Cards, Tibetan Medicine Cards, Magical Mermaids & Dolphin Cards, Saints & Angel Cards, and on and on.
My friend had warned me that there were many types of Oracle cards…and thank goodness, I had the foresight to ask how I would know which set to choose. She answered that I’d just simply know inside which one is right for me. The shop had a test-pack opened for each set so I could look through all the cards in each set. So I began to pick up each set, one at a time. Soon enough, I had narrowed down my selection to two sets; both angel sets. I took a deep breath, stood up as if to go, I made a decision at the moment, and bent down again to pick up the one I knew was right for me–Doreen Virtue’s Daily Guidance from your Angels Oracle Cards.
You’ll just know which one’s for you. It’s true!
MAKING THE ANGEL CARDS MY OWN
Each time I look at my set now I’m soothed by the purple box. Purple is the color of good judgment…and the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. You don’t say? Also, if you surround yourself with purple then you’ll have peace of mind. I want that! Purple has also been used to symbolize magic and mystery, and royalty too. But I digress…
Once you take out the set of cards, the instructions tell you to clear your deck card by making a fist with your hand and pounding it down on the set of the cards to transmit your energy into the cards. It gave me happy chills to feel my energy vibrate into the cards. It made me feel calm and safe, and the cards truly felt like mine now.
Whenever I pick up my set of Angel Cards to ask the angels for a message, I’m happily astonished to receive the same set of 5 or 6 cards over and over again! There are 44 cards in the set, but I’ve only actually received the 5 or 6 cards the whole 3 years I’ve been using them. While I ask the angels for a message, I shuffle the cards…and I swear this is true…and one will just jump out from the deck. This is the message from the angels that I need to know at that moment. At first, I was spooked, hey I’m not going to lie.
Sometimes I’m shuffling furiously and the cards seems to want to stay snug inside the deck. When this happens, I realize my mind is somewhere else and I should take a break and return to my deck later. Now all of this reassures that nagging practical part of myself that wonders if this is all smoke and mirrors…I do this by reminding myself that I had released MY energy into these cards and the angels are speaking to me in a personal manner.
ANGELS AROUND US
I’m thankful for the angels, as they continually help me daily. I remember reading once that there are tangible signs that are given to us sometimes when the angels want to reassure us–you might notice a feather, or coins, or birds in your path.
Then one day I was cleaning out a craft box I had found hidden in the back of the closet, and when I opened the lid *POOF!* dozens of pale blue feathers had floated out, cascading around me. I felt instantly calm and loved. It was then that I remembered what I had read about the feathers as a sign from the angels. The feathers, by the way, had been plucked out of a New Year’s tiara and stored in the craft box.
One especially dreary day one summer, I was at home and turned to stare out of my window when I spotted a Canada Goose hanging out on the very narrow garden sill along the ledge of the balcony of my across-the-alley neighbor. Very random, I thought at first.
A few days ago my counselor told me I have two Guardian Angels. Whereas I said “Yay!”…he responded I was quite lucky to have two, whereas there’s others who have more, need more, due to their emotional damage. Yay for my two Guardian Angels! Thank you!
And today a soaring seagull decided to fly very close to my window as I gazed out at the soft rain….just as I was writing about birds as a sign from angels. What can I say? I’m delighted to believe that the angels are reassuring me.
