Although I may be a hockey-person at heart, I’m a sucker for the Nike basketball ads. I know, I know. Big corporate buggers. I get pulled in by the motivational speeches on some of the ads, like the ones by Michael Jordan (“…I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life…and that is why I succeed.”).

Here are my favorite motivating basketball ads:

1. MICHAEL JORDAN | NIKE | FAILURE (Watch HERE or click above)

I missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost more than 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over, and over, and over again in my life…and that is why I succeed.

Disrespect me. Tell me I’m older. Tell me I’m slower. Tell me I can no longer fly. I want you to…

It’s not about the shoes. It’s about knowing where you’re going. Not forgetting where you started. It’s about having the courage to fail. Not breaking, when you are broken. Taking everything you’ve been given…and making something better. It’s about work…before glory. It’s what’s inside of you. It’s doing what they say you can’t. It’s not about the shoes. It’s about what you do inside them. It’s about being what you were born to be.

Maybe it’s my own fault. Maybe I led you to believe it was easy when it wasn’t. Maybe I led you to believe my highlights started at the free throw line, and not in the gym. Maybe I led you to think that every shot I took was a game winner. That my game was built on flash, and not fire. Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength. That my pain was my motivation. Maybe I led you to believe that basketball was a God-given gift, and not something I worked for…every single day of my life. Maybe I destroyed the game…or maybe you’re just making excuses.

Look me in the eye. It’s okay if you’re scared…so am I. But we’re scared for different reasons. I’m scared of what I won’t become. And you’re scared of what I could become. Look at me. I won’t let myself in where I started. I won’t let myself finish where I began. I know what is within me…even if you can’t see it yet. Look me in the eyes. I have something more important than courage. I have patience. I will become what I know I am.

“There was this hole that I had all of my life.”

This story is amazing. Amazing. I cried … in a good way. You must, must, must listen to MJ Seide talk with her 12-year-old granddaughter Genna Alperin about falling in love with her partner, Genna’s biological grandmother:

I saw this story and listened to it from this article at the HuffPost. This particular story is one of many at StoryCorps, “an oral history initiative that helps Americans record and archive stories from their lives.”

♡ A warm feeling envelopes

(credit) Love | Akihago @ etsy:

At least three times a day, stop whatever you’re doing for 30 seconds, put your hand over your heart, and do a gratitude and appreciation “check-in.”

Bring to mind someone or something you love unconditionally, such as a dog or young child, until a warm feeling envelops your heart and chest.

♡ Meditation, please come to me

(credit) Mediation 2 | Silver Ridge Studio @ etsy:

Meditation is the basic key to a happy life.  The nature of our mind is to create fear, because it feels this will protect us. However, we have the choice to see above & beyond the fear, and the answer is:  Meditation.

If we meditate, the subconscious fear base will not leak into the conscious awareness.  We will then live a clear and happy life. Join us as we prepare the body to be still and quiet.

Through Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, let us move into the deeper realms of very ancient and sacred meditation techniques, giving us the ability to view our lives beyond time and beyond space.

When asked what she’d do if she could live her life again, then 85-year-old Nadine Stair from Kentucky answered:

I’d dare to make more mistakes next time.

I’d relax, I would limber up.

I would be sillier than I have been this trip.

I would take fewer things seriously.

I would take more chances.

I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.

I would eat more ice cream and less beans.

I would perhaps have more actual troubles,

but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I’m one of those people who live

sensibly and sanely hour after hour,

day after day.

Oh, I’ve had my moments,

And if I had it to do over again,

I’d have more of them.

In fact, I’d try to have nothing else.

Just moments, one after another,

instead of living so many years ahead of each day.

I’ve been one of those people who never goes anywhere

without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat

and a parachute.

If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have.

If I had my life to live over,

I would start barefoot earlier in the spring

and stay that way later in the fall.

I would go to more dances.

I would ride more merry-go-rounds.

I would pick more daisies.
