♫ Bonnie “Prince” Billy | the way

PLAYLIST FOR RUNNING | COOLDOWN MUSIC

Oh my, this song is melancholic, yet sweet and beautiful. The following lyric is devastating and pierces your heart: “Winter comes, then snow, I can’t marry you…” And this lyric is so heart-crushing yet sweet: “...let your unloved parts get loved, and I will be your manPS: Come now, how can you resist his silly stage-name?

♫ Lil’ Wayne | how to love

PLAYLIST FOR RUNNING | COOLDOWN MUSIC

I didn’t expect such a sweet, sweet song from Lil’ Wayne. “How to Love” is gentle and tender, and seems to say that ladies best love themselves first before they can be loved by another.

You are infinitely lucky if you’re comfortable enough in your own body and soul to giggle, wiggle, and smile a lot. And exponentially so, if your partner allows you to be exactly who you are, this way, and still stands enthralled by you.

This, I suppose, is…how to love. *smile*

PARKS & REC FUNNIES

I was so, so tired…but I watched these clips of Donna and Jean-Ralphio from Parks & Recreation featured in Huffington Post, and then I.couldn’t.stop.giggling. I was in major hysterics. Sorry that was redundant, but hot damn I burst out laughing at the ridiculousness.

I first watched “The Complete Jean-Ralphio” and then moseyed along to “The Best of Donna.” Made my day!

BEST OF DONNA

* Watch “Best of DonnaHERE. I love the last bit (“Yeeesss. Work the hill.”) But it’s her delivery of the following lines that kill me!

That was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Did you grow up in the woods? Are you Nell? From the movie Nell?

THE COMPLETE JEAN-RALPHIO

Watch “The Complete Jean-RalphioHERE. My favorite scene? Hmm, it’s a toss up between, “Hope you brought a change of clothes, because your eyes are about to piss tears” (wherein Donna responds: “You nasty.”)…and:

Jean-Ralphio: “You can’t die full of regret. Don’t you live your life like that cow from the video.”

Tom: “He was a horse.”

Jean-Ralphio: “Yeah, because he followed his dreams.”

*PS: Damn Hulu is only available in the U.S 😦

I ♥ my new favorite snack

MY NEW FAVORITE SNACK

As you know, I love my moms — she is pretty awesome thankyouverymuch. The latest words of wisdom she had for me before she left for a Japanese tea-ceremony conference in CA? “You must, must, must try my new favorite snack!”

What could it be? Well, it’s absolutely divine. Scrumptious. Creamy, salty, savory, healthy, green, and a perfect mix of Japanese and Western influences. It’s simple yet elegant. Okay, okay, already. It’s avocado with shoyu (Japanese soy sauce).

Deflated? Sorry about that. But it’s so.damn.good! It tastes much better than any ol’ California roll or avocado roll. Plus there are no empty rice carbs involved.

HAWAIIAN NIKKEI CONNECTION

Apparently it’s a Hawaiian-Nikkei specialty — like shaved-ice with ling hing mui powder, and hurricane popcorn (popcorn mixed with rice crackers and furikake — yum), and gummy bears covered in ling hing mui powder (chinese salty dried plum), and spam omusubi.

AVOCADO IS GOOD

I know that avocados have a bad rap for being “fatty” with loads of calories. But, hey, it’s the “good” fat. It’s healthy! It’s alkaline, and contains a nutrient called glutathione that allegedly blocks a bundle of carcinogens, and helps the liver detoxify chemicals.

AVOCADO/SHOYU “RECIPE”

I say the word ‘recipe’ here loosely, because there’s nothing much to this. Just cut ripe avocado in half. [Right now I’m partial to Reed variety avocados, as they are in season and taste delish!] Remove the pit. Gently scoop out flesh. Slice, if you wish. Place prettily on plate. Pour a bit of low-sodium, good quality shoyu on top. Optional: Pour a hint of sesame oil. Or tabasco sauce. Do not use just any random soy sauce. Please. It has to be shoyu.

MOM’S CONSENSUS

It sounds ridiculously boring, but it’s my current go-to snack when I’m craving something savory. My mom is prone to do *jumpy claps* when she even thinks about avocado-shoyu (“It’s soooooo good! Shinji-ran-nai! [“Unbelievable…it’s a mystery why it’s so good?!”]).

1) PLAYLIST FOR WORKING OUT | THE DEAD WEATHER

This song…hot damn, there are moments when a girl just wants to rock out and kick some butt….while working out (or house-cleaning). I may look sweet, but there are some head-banging moments that creep up in here from time to time.

Right now, this is my go-to song for these moments. I mean, come now, Alison Mosshart singing, “Come on, look me in the eye. You wanna try to tell a lie? Bet you can’t. You know why? I’m just like your mother.” So, so hot. Jack White’s rebuttal goes nowhere. *Oh snap*

2) PLAYLIST FOR WORKING OUT | P.O.D

My second favorite go-to song for these moments? P.O.D’s “Boom.” Hot damn. So much fun.

Here comes the BOOM! Ready or not. How you like me now?…Is that all you got? Well, I’ll take your best shot!

Come to think of it, this is a total hockey song (except the part of about “here comes the boys from the south”). You know what I mean? All that banging into the boards going on? *BOOM*

PLAYLIST FOR RUNNING | WORKING OUT

I don’t really work-out, per se. Meaning I don’t hit the gym, unless the weather is terrible and then I’ll go to my building’s gym and run on the treadmill. While I do run, take long “epic” walks, hike, and practice Moksha hot yoga, I didn’t really work-out properly to tone and strengthen with weight-training.

I realized that I really should tone up with weights and equipment. I should be kinder to my muscles, which is why I’m using Adidas’ Mi Coach app (“Mi” is not a typo!). I’m using the Women’s Training Plan, which lays out a work-out plan that includes running and weight-training. It shows little videos on what to do, how many reps/sets, and my coach reminds me to do it already, dammit!
