I rarely get sick. Really. Truly. *knock on wood* I hope it’s because I have a healthy immune system. Yet this week I’ve succumbed to some nasty bug that’s invaded my tummy via tainted food (aka. “bad” sushi). So…it’s not that I’ve caught a cold or flu.
It’s so terrible that I’ve taken time off work. During one of the busiest times of the year to boot. It drives me batty that I’m sick and can’t get to work or do work and get things I need to get done, well, done. Sigh.
I did go back to work after taking one day off…and felt better, somewhat. Then I came home and woke up the next morning, alas, feeling nauseous (nauseated?). Very much like motion-sickness. You know that lurid feeling where you feel all green and your face bunches up like you smell something horrid? You have to stop in your tracks and touch your tummy to stabilize? Yeah. That would be me.
And before you think it…no.I.am.not.pregnant.
DOG DAYS OF SICKNESS
Basically my “sick” meals consist of dry toast, coconut water, Emergen-C, okayu (Japanese soupy rice like congee), ginger tea, and tons of water. Not very exciting. For a foodie like me, this is a fast.
I make a terrible “sick person.” I revert into a whiny toddler, mumbling about feeling terrible and rolling around feeling blech-y. Now, truth be told, I’m a great nurse to a sick person, but when I’m the invalid then I become this whimpering ball of pouty-face. I admit it. Yup. It’s not a pleasant.
THANK GOODNESS FOR OUR MEDICAL SYSTEM
This is my predicament right now. It ain’t all that pretty. On the bright side, I can roll around in my pj’s all day, on my 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets to dream about lovely things and let my body recover…in between bouts of throwing up.
Yes, it’s probably about time I visit the doctor already. I knew that.
