MUSIC FOR RUNNING | COOL DOWN MUSIC
I’m not entirely a Francophile, more of an Anglophile. I do, however, romanticize about Ladurée macarons, Paris, fields of lavender in Provence, full-bodied red wines from Burgundy, navy-and-white-striped fishermen sweaters from Bretagne, and the pretty fluidity of the French language.
And, so, I listen to French music. Actually, let’s be frank (oh, ha!), I’m more aware of the music that comes from Quebec, being from Canada and all. In particular, I quite like Beatrice Martin, who sings under the pen name, Coeur de Pirate (Pirate Heart).
This song called “La Petite Mort” (Little Death) is so pretty, absolutely devastating, very une jolie-laide. Especially these lyrics: Je crois qu’il est trop tard / Pour te dire que ça fait mal / Mon coeur n’est plus comme avant / Car il s’endort tout doucement.
(Translation: I think that it’s too late / To admit to you that I’m hurting / My heart is not like it was before / Because it softly falls asleep)
Mon Dieu, my heart yearns to visit France now…le sigh.
