I am a dancer. Surprise! I’ve been dancing since I was 5 years old. More than 20 years. More than 25 years. More than…well, a long ass time.
Not hip hop. Not ballroom. Not ballet. Not tap. Not bhangra. Not tango. Not contemporary. Not popping or locking. Nope. It’s rather boring now that I made you wait. But, yes, since my little beaming face was 5 years old, I have been practicing classical Japanese dance (Nihon buyo).
My parents let me dabble with ballet and tap when I was a little girl, too. I did a little hip hop later on. But they always fell on the wayside, except for my beloved Japanese dancing. I have to admit, though, that I’m now seriously contemplating nixing it all together. My heart is not in it anymore. A shame, really.
I digres…I really wanted to talk about today’s Daily Smile, the dancing reality show, So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). I luuuuurve it. I always forget when it’s on, so I don’t actually get to watch every single episode. But when I do catch the show, there’s always one or two routines that move me to the core. Sometimes they make me cry. Cry! Like ugly pouring my soul out crying.
My favourite all time SYTYCD dancer is Alex Wong. Have you seen THIS hip hop routine with all-star Twitch? Respect.
I’m supposed to say the winner, Ricky, was my favourite (he’s the cat’s meow, yes). But Tanisha is my girl. She got eliminated a while back, but she wowed me every time. Every.Single.Time. Since hip hop is my steeze, the above hip hop routine with Rudy (choreographed by Dave Scott) is my favourite this year (watch it here too).
I also ugly-cried to this mini-group routine, where Tanisha shines and breaks your heart (watch HERE).
